FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
Q: What time can I check in/out?
A: Our rooms are ready for you by 12pm and checkout is before 10am.
Q: I have things to do around Rotorua after I check out, where can I store my bags?
A: We have free bag storage at reception. It is accessible from 7:30am to 10pm.
Q: If I bring my bike with me is there anywhere to store it?
A: We have free bike storage here which is locked all day and alarmed overnight. We have never had any theft or damage issues.
Q: Is your internet cafe & Wi-Fi really only $2 per hour?
A: Indeed it is. We own all of our internet cafe equipment which means we can charge what we like. Therefore Crank guests get discounted internet all the time!
Q: Do you book Rotorua activities?
A: Not only do we book activities for Rotorua, Taupo and pretty much everywhere else, we also have some amazing discounts. If you are coming to stay at Crank we recommend checking our activity prices before booking anywhere else as we normally have the cheapest prices available.
Q: I think I may be a bit too old to stay in a backpackers hostel, is there an age limit at Crank?
A: In short, no. There is no age limit and never will be! We cater for people of all ages and aim to provide a comfortable experience for everyone. We often welcome mature travellers here and the feedback we get is very positive!
Q: What about children?
A: Children are welcome too, in fact they love the Playstation 3 and the climbing wall the most! We just ask that any under 18s are accompanied by an adult family member, we do not allow under 18s in the gym for safety reasons and we insist that younger children do not share dorms with backpackers.
Q: And pets?
A: No pets, sorry, other guests may have allergies. Teddy-bears are ok though.
Q: A free gym, is that right?
A: Yep, on level 3 we have a small fitness suite with a treadmill, cross-trainer, exercycle, rowing machine, boxing bag, ab-worker, bodybuilder and free weights. It is totally free for guests and is open from 7:30am to 8pm every day!
Q: That is an amazing climbing wall! Is it free?
A: We do charge for the climbing wall as it is rather expensive to run. However we are pleased to offer all Crank guests a 25% discount. The discounted cost is only $12 for two hours climbing including your harness, and safety training. Further discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. The wall is open until 10pm every day and this special rate is only available to Crank guests!
Q: What about the cinema?
A: The Basement Cinema has two theatres and shows independent & art-house movies along with the latest NZ films all day long. We offer a 30% discount to our guests which makes movie tickets only $10 per person. Again, this rate is exclusive to Crank guests!
Q: I see you sell alcohol; can I bring my own with me?
A: Crank backpackers is a fully licensed premises which means that you may drink alcohol that is purchased here, but you can not bring your own in (basically the same as any licensed bar). We always like to see our guests enjoy a few drinks but drunken behaviour can make other guests feel uncomfortable and also result in damage to our property, we aim to minimise these risks by monitoring the service and consumption of alcohol. We do understand that you may be travelling on a tight budget so we have priced our bar drinks accordingly. Did you know that guests can get a beer and an hour internet here for just five bucks!?
Q: As Crank is in the city centre, do you have parking available?
A: Our parking is on-street and outside the hostel it is free overnight (5pm -9am) and free at weekends. Alternatively there is free all-day parking available just down the street. We understand that you do not want to leave your valuables unattended in your car so we offer free storage for the entire duration of your stay and for the day that you check out!
Q: What if I need to cancel my reservation?
A: We totally understand that your circumstances may change and you may need to cancel or change your reservation with us. Our standard cancellation fee is the 1st night's accommodation, although you may cancel or change your booking up to 48 hours prior to your check in date with no charge. We are sometimes flexible with late cancellation charges if we are quiet and would not have normally been able to sell your room, but we will always charge for no-shows. If you are having any difficulties in making it to Crank for your booking, please let us know as soon as possible!
IMPORTANT NOTE: During very busy periods like the Rugby World Cup or some public holiday weekends, we may ask for either a 50% deposit, or full payment in advance. These payments are non-refundable and you will be clearly notified of this when you book.
