RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011
From 9th September to 23rd October 2011, New Zealand will host the Rugby World Cup.
Rotorua will proudly play host to three games during this time. Namibia, playing in their fourth consecutive World Cup, will play our Pacific neighbours Fiji and Samoa in the first two games here before the mighty Ireland take on Russia who are making their first ever appearance in the World Cup finals!
Rotorua looks like being a very popular destination for rugby fans during the tournament, apart from the three matches being played here there are two major factors which appear to be driving people toward the sulphur city. Firstly, Rotorua is located right in the centre of New Zealand's North Island. Every major city (Auckland, Hamilton, Taupo, Wellington, Napier, Tauranga, etc) is easily accessible by road or plane and the majority of games are being played in these cities.
Secondly, if you're looking for adventure, history and spectacular nature then you'll be hard pressed to find any better than Rotorua! We have some of the world's most active geothermal hotspots and volcanic activity, the Maori culture is hugely prevalent in this city with most Maori villages happy to welcome overseas travellers to see and learn their culture and if its adrenaline pumping adventure you're after, look no further than Rotorua for skydiving, bungy jumping, white-water rafting, jet boating, quad biking and so much more!
